FORT PIERRE — The Central South Dakota Enhancement District met at the Stanley County Courthouse Thursday afternoon.

The board authorized Justin Piole, CSDED planner, to look into parcel mapping of the counties that are part of the CSDED and the board looked at results of a regional development survey.

The CSDED serves Jackson, Haakon, Jones, Stanley, Hughes, Sully and Hyde counties and aids those counties and 20 municipalities in grant writing, planning, economic development, Web site development and mapping.

From the 32 responses to the CSDED’s regional survey, Marlene Knutson, CSDED executive director, said many expressed an interest in entrepreneurship.

Access to business capital tied for third in the five most important keys to improving a region’s economy, along with modern public infrastructure and available land and/or buildings, according to the survey.

Knutson said CSDED may want to consider offering mini-loans in the future to provide funds for residents they serve to encourage the growth of small businesses.

The survey also reported that housing development was the most important issue to be pursued in the next 12 to 18 months.

The board set July 10 as a tentative date for the next meeting.
