The fast food restaurant known for its roast beef sandwiches, market fresh sandwiches and sauces will be located west of Hardee’s restaurant on what is now a vacant lot off W. Sioux Avenue.
The franchisee, Bentley-Miller, will operate 18 Arby’s restaurants when the Pierre location is open. Other Bentley-Miller Arby’s restaurants are in South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska. The group began running Arby’s restaurants in 1986.

“The reason we selected Pierre was because it was a nice-sized town in South Dakota where there wasn’t an Arby’s at this point,” said Carter Miller, a Bentley-Miller partner. “We happen to be the operator that is in Rapid City and we were looking for a place to develop and Pierre was on that radar.”
Carter said the construction of the building will be relatively speedy as it will come to Pierre mostly pre-built. Construction will consist of putting on the roof and windows, said Carter.
Bentley-Miller has been considering opening an Arby’s in Pierre for two years and the partners believe their location will serve them well, said Carter.
“The traffic count was good and the other food restaurants were down in that area,” Carter said. “The entry point into Pierre is along there. We anticipate it to be a good addition to our company and we’re excited to be part of the Pierre community.”
The first Arby’s was opened by Leroy and Forest Raffel in 1964 in Boardman, Ohio.
In 1993, Triarc Companies Inc. purchased Arby’s and on July 25, 2005, Triarc acquired RTM Restaurant Group, Arby’s largest franchisee.
Trace Beck, Pierre Economic Development Corporation president, did not wish to comment about the new business.

The types of workers that I see in a new food establishment months after open are people (select any age, gener, or culture range you want) that just want to get their paycheck. Not much attention is really turned to making people feel good and want to come back. I genuinely thank the rare staff that treat me with a smile. Hardee's: They did switch their menu style. Take a look at the ads on their bags-restaurant style burger at a fast food pace. the beef is better quality than the BK knockoff. "

We've got to get our entire community to work together to promote our local economy - that means stores need to be prepared for what their customers want and the customers need to support our local retailers as much as possible.
It's a two way street and we all need to work together. "

Go Arby's! I wish it was there when I lived there. It will be a nice break from the fried food at other fast food joints.
If you want better dining options - open your own place. Otherwise, quit complaining. "

As far as getting other stores in the mall, I would imagine it's the same thing. You need a lot of money to get started and keep going until people in town realize they can get their clothes or whatever here. "

If I remember right, there is a new liquor license available now. All of the places you listed would be able to get one of the new licenses, but again, without good staff and a large customer base, they won't come here. "

Have you checked the listing of menu items and the nutritional info about Arby's? I'd have to say that with things like roast beef sandwiches, and the Market Fresh line (with whole wheat bread, and things like the Toasted Pecan Chicken Sandwich) I'd say it's a whole lot healthier to have a meal from Arby's than say McDonald's or Burger King. Though those other restaurants are making a slow switch to "healthy" foods, their biggest profits still come from oversized burgers. "
