PIERRE — Sentencing has been changed for an Onida man who pleaded guilty in the shooting death of his wife earlier this year.
Thirty-nine-year-old Herman Kleinsasser Jr. was to be sentenced for first-degree manslaughter next Thursday in Pierre. The sentencing has been moved to July 20 in Onida.
Officials say some of the couple’s six children might speak at the sentencing.
As part of a plea bargain, charges of first-degree murder and second-degree murder were dismissed against Kleinsasser. Prosecutors agreed to support a prison sentence of 50 to 80 years rather than the maximum of life in prison.
Sharon Kleinsasser was found dead Jan. 29 in the couple’s home in what authorities called a murder-attempted suicide. Herman Kleinsasser was found injured in the home and spent more than two weeks in a hospital.
