Norma J. O’Day, 65, of Pierre, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center, Pierre. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 26, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, Pierre. Inurnment will take place at 10 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2009 at Riverside Cemetery.

Norma Jean O’Day was born July 10, 1944 in Richwood, W.V. to Kermit and Arthalea (Hubbard) O’Dell. Norma’s family moved from West Virginia to South Dakota where she completed her elementary education at White Eagle Country School near Rapid Valley. She attended Junior High in San Antonio, Texas and completed her high school career at Douglas High School in Ellsworth. Norma married the love of her life, Fred O’Day Jr., in Rapid City on March 9, 1966. The couple lived in Charleston, W.V. before settling in Pierre in 1969 where she and Fred raised their family and owned and managed rental properties. Norma was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, UCT and Lions Club and was a Girl Scout den mother. She enjoyed collecting dolls and spending time with family and friends. Norma’s family was the most important thing in her life and her love for them was ever evident.

Norma will be forever missed by her children; sons, Dale O’Day, Pierre, Neal O’Day, Pierre, Robert (Lisa) O’Day, Jacksonville, Ala., Basil O’Day, Pierre, daughter, Valarie O’Day, Rapid City, Grandchildren; Khalil Ford, Malachi Ford, Nicholas McClure, Joseph “Jo Jo” VanRooyen, Trevor O’Day and Deven O’Day, brothers; Noah “Bud” (Karen) O’Dell and Edgar Dale Boothe, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, stepmother, Norma O’Dell, daughter, Yvonne O’Day, and sister, Rhonda Abarca.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Feigum Funeral Home. Condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.feigumfh.com.
