Sen. Julie Bartling running for State Auditor

PIERRE — State Senator Julie Bartling, D-Burke, has announced her candidacy for South Dakota State Auditor.

Bartling has served as Gregory County Auditor for 18 years, South Dakota House and Senate Appropriations Committees for eight years and an appointment to the 2009-2010 Government Operations and Audit Committee.

In her fifth term as a South Dakota legislator, Bartling currently serves on the Joint Appropriations Committee, Joint Government Operations and Audit Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee. She represents Gregory, Mellette, Todd and Tripp counties.

Julie and her husband, Bart, own and operate an agriculture-based business.

 In a statement, Bartling said she is dedicated to ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent appropriately and constitutionally by closely monitoring the checks and balances of state government expenditures, performing a pre-audit of all claims against the state and acting as a watchdog over governmental contracts.
