FORT PIERRE — The Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center might not be the first place that comes to mind when shopping for that hard-to-buy-for person but after Nov. 28, it just might.

The famed rodeo center is holding A Day With the Authors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited to bring a nonperishable food item for the food pantry to receive a discount off the price of admission, which is $4 for seniors and $5 for adults. Children younger than 5 get in free.

The event was an inspiration of Blunt resident and published author Doris Lauing helped coordinate the event.

“With the holiday approaching I thought A Day With The Authors would offer a great selection of inexpensive gifts along with the opportunity to meet and visit with the authors and get their purchases personalized,” Lauing said.

Lauing confirmed 10 South Dakota authors to be at the event.

From cowboy poetry to children’s coloring books, the event is sure to have something for everybody.

“South Dakota is packed full of talent that a lot of people don’t know about,” Lauing said.

“We are hoping it will be a success and we will be able do it again and have more authors in the future,” Lauing said.

While there, visitors can tour the rodeo center, check out the gift shop and silently bid on the displayed wreaths. The bids will be awarded Dec. 20 during a Christmas tea party.

“The wreaths are just beautiful and definitely worth coming to see,” the rodeo center’s director Janice Bartels said. “There will be a great group of authors ... whose books are great.”
