PIERRE — As the snow flurried outside, the atmosphere at the Kings Inn Hotel & Conference Center was warm and inviting as seven candidates anxiously waited for the results of the Capital Area Snow Queen Festival.

Megan Meier took the crown for the 2010 Miss Capital Area Snow Queen — and was also the pick for Miss Congeniality — and Dessie Westall was the runner-up.

Kelbie Frederick won the Junior Miss Capital Area Snow Queen and Morgan Meier was both runner-up and the junior Miss Congeniality.

As the 2010 Miss Capital Area Snow Queens, the girls will represent the capital area throughout the community next year, as well as go on to the State Snow Queen Festival in Aberdeen in January.

“The competition was hard, but it was a blast,” said Megan Meier, who not too long ago took the Junior Miss Capital Area Snow Queen crown.

“They were a fabulous bunch of girls,” event coordinator Jamie Freestone said. “I really enjoyed working with them.”
