Kathleen Ann Vander Hoek was born March 3, 1944, to Carl M. and Mary M. (O’Donnell) Vander Hoek in Aberdeen where she was raised, attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. She also attended Aberdeen School of Commerce.
Kathleen married Kenneth Manning March 9, 1964, in Aberdeen. They moved to Pierre where both her children, Bryce and Jodi were born.
Kathleen later returned to Aberdeen and was employed with Northern State College, The Lumber Co., KABR/KDBQ radio station and later at KABY-TV. She went on to spend the remainder of her career with Super 8 Motels as a trainer and motel manager.
Those who knew Kathy remembered her as a very independent and strong individual who took great pride in her children and had a soft spot for all children and animals. Her 4-year-old grandson, Ashton, was the light of her life. You could always get a smile and see her eyes light up at the mention of his name no matter what the state of her health.
Grateful for having shared Kathy’s life are her children, Bryce Manning, of Pierre, and Jodi (Mark) Remily, of Aberdeen; one grandson, Ashton; one sister, Jeanne Zahn, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, John (Nancy) Vander Hoek and Robert (Vickie) Vander Hoek, both of Aberdeen, sister in law Kathie Manning, Aberdeen and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents.
