Chris Nelson in a yarmulke

One of my stories for today's paper is about a menorah lighting ceremony on the Capitol steps. As with last year, it was a very political crowd attending — Sen. Stan Adelstein (R-Rapid City) and Rep. Dan Lederman (R-Dakota Dunes) were both there. So were State Auditor Rich Sattgast and Secretary of State/Congressional candidate Chris Nelson.

Not here this year was Gov. Mike Rounds, who spoke at last year's menorah-lighting ceremony.

Anyway, here's a shot I nabbed of Nelson wearing a yarmulke, the Jewish skullcap donned even by non-Jews at Jewish ceremonies as a sign of respect. (Sattgast is in the background; there were not enough yarmulkes to go around. I believe Nelson was wearing one of Lederman's.)
