Lincoln came to town with a 4-0 record, including wins over Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Aberdeen Central. But they left Riggs Gym with a 54-44 loss.
“They had a couple really big wins, so it was nice to see our girls be able to play well and beat them,” Pierre coach Lisa Kannegieter said. “And I was happy we shot the ball well after Friday night.”

The Lady Govs and Arrows combined for just 31 points in the first half in Watertown on Friday night. Pierre shot 19 percent from the floor, while Watertown managed 21 percent.
Pierre won the game, 43-39.
“Any time you can go into Watertown and get a win, it’s a good night,” Kannegieter said. “But that was a pretty poor shooting display from both teams.”
Against Watertown, Amber Olson led the Lady Govs with 14 points. Linsey Peterson scored 10, while Amanda Stout and Kaitlyn Severyn scored six each. Olson, Stout and Paige Burkett had five rebounds apiece, with Burkett dishing out six assists.
Against the Patriots, Peterson led the way with 11 points, followed by Burkett, Severyn and Katie Ludemann with nine each. Severyn, an eighth-grader, made her first start of the season.
The Lady Govs get a much-needed break this week before they head to Rapid City to take on Stevens and Central next week.
Pierre is set to get Mandi Atkins back from a volleyball injury that has prevented her from practicing with the team, and several players are nursing bumps and bruises.
“It’s nice to have some time to get healed up,” Kannegieter said. “And we want to continue to work on some offensive things. With the young group we have, there has been a steep learning curve, which has limited some of the things we can do. And we want to keep cleaning some things up.”
