Both were all-around standout athletes for the Lady Buffs in the first half of the 1990s, and both starred on the basketball court.
Stroup-Bruske was the first Lady Buff basketball player to be selected All State, an honor she received in 1990 and 1991.

She set a school record for points in a game when she poured in 35 in 1990 and later helped the Lady Buffs to their first state tournament appearance in 1991. Though the Buffs finished eighth, she played well enough at the tournament to be named to the All Tournament team.
Stroup-Bruske was also named All Big Dakota Conference following her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Stanley County started its volleyball program during Stroup-Bruske’s senior year — a result of Stroup-Bruske and a group of girls petitioning that it be added. She was also a solid track performer, qualifying for the state meet in the hurdles three times.
In addition to her exploits on the field, Stroup-Bruske was an active student at Stanley County. She was named All State in band twice, and was active in the journalism and drama programs. She also kept stats for the football and boys basketball teams.
Stroup-Bruske was the valedictorian of the Stanley County class of 1992.
After high school, she attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, where she earned degrees in wellness and accounting. She now resides in Sioux Falls with her family, including her son Tristan, who was born in September.
She was preceded into the Stanley County Athletics Hall of Fame by her uncle, Ron Hutcheson.
Kristie Hallock-Moore was another prolific athlete and student at Stanley County, and she, too graduated valedictorian, in 1995.
She was a standout player in basketball, gymnastics and track, and led the Lady Buffs to three state tournament appearances.
In addition, she won the first SuAnn Big Crow Award at the state tournament in 1993 for her accomplishments as a leader, role model, scholar and athlete.
Hallock-Moore was named all conference three times, was the Lady Buffs offensive MVP thrice, and was named to the Southern Plains All-Tournament team twice, including tourney MVP honors when the Lady Buffs won in 1994. She also made two State All-Tournament teams, in 1993 and 1994.
Hallock-Moore was also an elite gymnast, finishing third in the state all-around four times and sixth once. She won the floor exercise at the state meet in 1990 and was second three more times.
She was honored by her teammates as the Lady Buffs’ Most Dedicated Gymnast in 1990, and was named the Most Valuable from 1991-95.
Hallock-Moore also qualified for the state track meet from 1992-95 and finished in sixth place in the triple jump in 1993.
A standout in the classroom as well, Hallock-Moore was involved in student council, Spanish club, FCA, HNS, FHA an numerous other activities during her time at Stanley County. She was also named South Dakota’s Junior Miss in 1995.
She now lives in Vermillion with her husband Keith and their children.
