HOT SPRINGS — The Stanley County gymnasts are into a state tournament frame of mind after back-to-back competitions.

Thursday, they competed in Chamberlain in a make-up meet from earlier in the month. Twenty-four hours later they were in Hot Springs for a regional preview. In Chamberlain, the Lady Buffs broke the 130-point barrier for the second time this season. The next night scores dropped back to 120.2.

“We had kind of an off day on Friday but 120.2 is not bad when you are throwing in so many new skills,” coach Jodi Gabriel said. “Everyone was tired and just couldn’t pull it together. We just had some little execution errors.

Chamberlain upset Hot Springs, 126.4-125.4 to win the team title. Bison’s Carlie Wiess won the floor and vault on her way to the all-around title at 33.75. The Lady Buffs’ Shelby Gienger won the beam and was second in the all-around at 33.0.

Gienger was one of five Stanley County gymnasts to post 30-point or better all-around scores in Chamberlain on Thursday. Gienger scored a 35.15 to lead the field. Haley Norman got her first 30 of the year with a 32.05. Kenna Wieczorek had a 30.8, Kelli Meyer 30.45 and Mikayla Lind 30.0. Lind had her third 30 of the season to quality for state.

“We hit a lot of new skills and got some of our highest scores of the season,” said Gabriel.

Gienger won the floor and bars and Wiezcorek was first on the beam.

Overall, the Lady Buffs were second with a 130.05, behind Wagner, at 131. That was just behind their season high of 130.2 at the Central Meet in December.

The final action of the regular season is Tuesday in Wall where all of the regional foes will meet. The region meet is Feb. 13 at Parkview Gym.
