MISSION — Stanley County had its best offensive showing of the season in a 72-60 loss to Todd County Tuesday.

The Buffs scored 23 fourth quarter points in a comeback attempt that fell short. It was 17 points above the team’s season average.

The offensive explosion came after a tough first half that saw them score only 18 points. Todd County scored the final 10 points of the first quarter to seize the momentum. The Buffs trailed by as much as 23 points in the third quarter and went into the fourth down by 14.

Marc Whirlwind Soldier’s three-point play gave the Falcons a seemingly comfortable 23-point lead at 65-43 midway in the fourth quarter. But Stanley County surged for a 17-3 run with Jake Miller scoring nine. Kyle Tibbetts’ basket with less than 90 seconds to play made it an 8-point game at 68-60. But Todd County was able to finish off Stanley County without further damage.

Miller finished with 16 points and Tibbetts scored in double figures with 10.

Josh LaRoche, a transfer student who played at Class AA Douglas last season, made his Buff debut and scored seven off the bench. Whirlwind Soldier led three players in double figures for the Falcons with 14 points. Canku One Star had a good all-around game with 10 assists, five points, three steals and four rebounds.

Now 2-12 on the season, the Buffs will play at Lyman on Friday. The Raiders held Stanley County to a season low in points in a 46-25 loss at the Jones County Invite on Jan. 14.
