Legislators are whipping out cell phones to call their comrades who aren't here, seeing who's going to show up late and who not at all.

Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard just said Sen. Mike Vehle, R-Mitchell, called to say he's in Fort Pierre and will be here imminently.

"I think we're going to have a quorum," Daugaard said..

I'm told as I write this that the House has a quorum, too.

It remains to be seen whether either house debates or votes on anything of consequence with 51 percent attendance.

" I share a love/hate relationship with virtual memory because of the way prices are always falling. I absolutely hate buying Micro SD Cards for my R4 / R4i at (seemingly) a crazy bargain price only to see it become 10% cheaper a few weeks later.(Posted using Net10 for R4i Nintendo DS.) "

" My friend and I were recently talking about the prevalence of technology in our day to day lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that discussion we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as memory gets cheaper, the possibility of downloading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I dream about all the time.

" So the funny thing is that the people who busted their butts to get to work today are the people who would be most affected by the cuts that the legislators that didn't go to work today are looking at making...not sure if it's comedy or tradgedy. "

" Hmmm... I'm guessing there are a lot of people who work for minimum or less (farming) that made it to work today and even traveled more than a few country miles. Guess it's a matter of priorities. Of course with nothing important to deal with in state government I'm sure their bosses (citizens) will understand. So any chance we'll get an attendance report and see who had a note from their mommy? "
