Munsterman's fundraising was, as he said, "middle of the pack." He raised $55,254.10, good for third place among the four Republicans who filed gubernatorial fundraising reports for 2009. (Gordon Howie did not declare his candidacy until 2010.) Compared to the Democrats Munsterman trailed Scott Heidepriem but beat the donation-less Ron Volesky.
The more interesting part of Munsterman's report is the other side of the ex-mayor's balance sheet. He spent more than twice what he took in, $123,137.21. This came courtesy of $80,000 in loans, including a second $50,000 loan from the First Bank & Trust in Brookings and $25,000 in personal loans.

Counting $13,867 in travel expenses and $9,550 for "books," Munsterman's campaign has $148,417.37 in total obligations.
Where did he spend his money? The two biggest items were advertising, $37,458.56, and salaries, $34,993.75. Also of note were $11,747 in travel expenses, $3,710 in interest on his campaign debt and $3,879 for "entrance to events.
Also of note among Munsterman's in-kind contributions: $1,200 for "blog advertisement" by popular conservative blogger Pat Powers, who also happens to be Munsterman's campaign manager.
By my rough count Munsterman has contributions from 146 different donors. (Including $250 from SDSU president David L. Chicoine.)
After all the fundraising, expenses and loans, Munsterman has $22,306.39 on hand.
