The National Journal's Hotline On Call blog reports that ex-Massachusetts governor and potential 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be visiting Sioux Falls Feb. 19 to raise money for Sen. John Thune.

Romney and Thune have never made a joint public appearance before.

This will be picked up by the Sioux City media market, important for the 2012 Iowa Caucuses.

Also of note: when someone has as much money and as little apparent need as Thune does, a fundraiser like this can be more about the photo ops and the favor than the money.

Thune, of course, is also mentioned as a dark horse 2012 presidential or vice presidential candidate. Thune has refused to dicuss or rule out running for anything beyond his 2010 reelection campaign.
