Just got this press release from the governor's office about Gov. Mike Rounds being appointed by President Barack Obama to a 10-member "Council of Governors." The council includes five Democratic governors and five Republican governors.

The release says the council is an advisory body for the president.

"Members of the Council of Governors will meet from time to time to offer their views, advice and information on synchronization and integration of state and federal military activities in the United States and matters pertaining to the National Guard, homeland defense and civil support activities."

Governors are appointed to two-year terms on the council. In Rounds' case, his term will expire when he leaves office. The president will then appoint someone else rather than Rounds' successor taking over.
