PIERRE — More winter weather is on the way, but meteorologists aren’t calling for anything as bad as recent storms.

Snow was set to move in Thursday and last throughout the weekend, dropping up to five inches over the span but not bringing strong winds like the ones that knocked out power and water in some places in the state recently.

“We’re looking at up to five inches of snow in the worst case but over a three-day period,” said Stan Keefe, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Aberdeen.

“It’s gong to be one of those long drawn-out events. Sunday morning we’ll still be dealing with cloudy skies and probably some on and off snow showers, but certainly nothing like the one we just went through.”

Keefe said it’s unlikely travel restrictions will be issued. He said if they are, the weather service should have a good idea by Friday.

Sunday is set to see the highest wind gusts, around 20 miles an hour at times.
