That’s when Daugaard and nine other politicians and law enforcement officers are poised to dive into the frigid Missouri River as part of a fundraiser for Special Olympics.
The Polar Plunge is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. near the American Legion cabin Wednesday. Organizers with the Law Enforcement Torch Run nonprofit hope to raise more than $25,000 for the South Dakota Special Olympics.

Ten volunteers have agreed to jump into the Missouri, with one extra person making the plunge for every $2,500 collected. Daugaard gets to stay dry unless donors reach the $25,000 goal.
On Monday, the Torch Run had raised more than $14,000.
Last year’s Polar Plunge raised $40,000 with eight volunteers jumping into the river. Daugaard was the final volunteer then, too, but donations fell short of last year’s $50,000 goal.
This year, all participants agreed to scale back the goal to $25,000.
Among the volunteers facing a dip into the icy water are Pierre Police Chief Bob GrandPre, Hughes County State’s Attorney Kelly Marnette, Director of the Division of Criminal Investigation Bryan Gortmaker, Attorney General Marty Jackley and gubernatorial candidate Sen. Gordon Howie, R-Rapid City.
