Stanley Kruger, 67, of Lead, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital in Deadwood.

Stanley Paul Kruger was born in Sioux Falls on Jan. 20, 1943, to Wilbert and Lena (Frautschy) Kruger. He attended grade and high school in Sioux Falls. He attended SDSU and graduated from Northern State University with a B.S. degree in Art Education in 1965. His working career included teaching art at Wakpala; jewelry repair in Sioux Falls, operating Kruger’s Jewelry in Lead; making jewelry in the Black Hills, mining gold and casino work in his later years.

As a child, Stan loved going to YMCA Camp Tepeetonka and to “the farm” near Madison to be with his cousins, aunt and uncle and grandparents. He also idolized his grandpa, Gus Kruger, who liked to make things with his hands. Stan could make something beautiful and unique from almost anything and always did things his own way.

He was very proud of several of his art students who used their art training and talents. Stan loved the beauty of the Black Hills and hanging out with friends in the Lead area.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; a son, Kelley Kruger; three grandchildren, Ryan, Anna and Abby; a stepson Rick Kendall; and a brother, David Kruger.

His parents preceded him in death.

He will be missed by friends and family, including his three nieces, Lynda Hart, of Pierre, Nancy Bergeson, of Rome, Italy, and Deb Domy of Kellogg, Idaho.

Stan would want everyone to know that he was grateful for all the caregivers and visitors during his illness.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at the Lead-Deadwood Funeral Chapel in Lead with the Rev. George Black officiating.

The Aldinger Funeral Home & Cremation Service is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
