Mayo Kirschenmann, 86, of Pierre, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at Maryhouse Chapel in Pierre, with a prayer service following at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold. Burial will be at Medicine Hill Cemetery in Harrold.

Mayo Sadler was born Nov. 23, 1923, to George and Emma (Holland) Sadler in Dixie, Ga. She grew up in Brooks County, Ga., where she attended school. She married Alvin Kirschenmann on Nov. 14, 1943, in Dixie, Ga.

After their marriage, Alvin and Mayo jumped a train to Alvin’s farm southwest of Harrold where they made their home. To this union, five children were born. After Alvin’s death in 1974, Mayo resided on the farm until 1987, when she moved to Pierre to be closer to some of her children. Mayo was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a caretaker for many individuals for several years. She enjoyed being with family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Mayo is survived by her children, Lawrence (Doneta), Arthur (Linda), Merlin (Lois), Alma (Jerry) and Kristy (Virgil); two brothers, Leighton (Deb) and Russell (Pat), of Georgia; two sisters, Maveline and Joyce (Richard) of Georgia; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandson, Don; six brothers; and four sisters.
