The second half drought spoiled a competitive first half. Stanley County never led in the contest but they played with Lyman for most of the first 16 minutes. Jake Miller’s three-pointer in the opening minutes of the second half made it a one point game at 16-15. Miller would make two free throws midway through the second quarter to keep it close at 21-18. But the Raiders would shut out the Buffs over the last four minutes of the first half to take a six point.
Jaylen Uthe and Hunter Schindler sank consecutive three-pointers to open the second half for Lyman. The Raiders outscored Stanley County 19-3 in the frame with Kyle Tibbetts scoring all of the Buffs’ points. His basket with under a minute to go in the quarter broke a string of 14 straight missed shots.

The poor offensive showing was especially disappointing, considering the Buffs were coming off their top scoring performance of the season just three days ago in Todd County. The 15.4 percent shooting was the worst shooting by a Stanley County team since March 1, 2005 when they made but seven-of-51 shots against Todd County.
It was Lyman’s fourth win in a row and 10th of the season. The Raiders have now beaten Stanley County 14 straight times dating back to 2002. That is the most dominant run by an opponent in team history.
The Buffs, now 2-13 on the year, are down to the final four games of the regular season. They host Gettysburg, 4-9, on Tuesday at Parkview Gym.
Lady Buffs
Talk about reliving a bad dream.
The Stanley County Lady Buffs fell 52-42 on Friday against Lyman and less than 24 hours later relived an almost exact same experience in losing 53-42 to South Central. Saturday’s game in White River was the Southern Plains tournament third-place game postponed by weather for two weeks.
Although the final results were a near mirror image, each game developed differently. On Friday, the Lady Buffs played Lyman close for the first half before falling back in the third quarter. On Saturday, South Central had a 10-point halftime lead before letting Stanley County rally to within five in the fourth quarter.
Against Lyman, Stanley County shot a season-low 18.8 percent from the field, including 2-of-19 in the fateful third quarter. The poor shooting marred a game that saw the Lady Buffs outrebound Lyman and commit half as many turnovers. Brandi Prince and Kendra Karst combined for 34 points but the rest of the team could manage only eight points between them.
Prince was the one constant in the weekend. She combined for 39 of the team’s 84 points or almost half. Last year, Sam Ostarello was responsible for 39 percent of the team’s scoring. Prince is being relied upon almost as much, providing 36 percent of the team’s offense. She went 20-of-22 from the line, including 12-of-12 against South Central on Saturday. The team record for most free throws in a game without a miss is 13-of-13 by Amy Bonhorst against Cheyenne-Eagle Butte on Oct. 21, 1986.
The Lady Buffs will try and break their six-game losing streak on Tuesday when they visit Miller.
