PIERRE — After a one-year hiatus, the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association varsity state tournament will once again be televised.

The two state semifinals on Saturday and Sunday’s state title game in Brookings next weekend will be televised on the Midcontinent Communications channel, which is cable channel 23 for those in the Pierre area.

The tournament was previously televised on KSFY. On the Midcontinent channel, the game will be televised in Huron, Pierre, Watertown, Sioux Falls, Yankton, Vermillion, Rapid City, Sturgis and Spearfish as well as on Mediacom channel 10 in Brookings.

The tournament seeds are set and Friday’s games feature fourth-seeded Rushmore against fifth-seeded Huron at 11:30 a.m. Brookings, the host and third seed, follows against Mitchell at 2 p.m. Second-seeded Watertown takes on seventh seed Sioux Falls at 5 p.m. The hometown Capitals, as the top seed, play the late game Friday, taking on eighth-seeded Aberdeen at 7:30 p.m.

The Capitals secured the top seed in the tournament by winning their final 13 league games of the season.

In a wide-open field, the seedings came down to the last weekend of the season. Watertown grabbed the second seed by taking two of three games from Rushmore during the final weekend, while Brookings slid down to third place and Rapid City all the way down to fourth.

Sioux Falls is unlikely to defend its state title from a year ago. The Flyers are playing its top team in another league this season, and their SDAHA team won just two games, both over Aberdeen.
