History buffs are hoping to land $3,000 to help commemorate famous aviator Charles Lindbergh’s landing in Pierre in 1927.

The Pierre/Fort Pierre Historic Preservation Commission, in its year-end report to the Fort Pierre City Council on Monday, said its plans for 2013 include taking steps to put a sign in place to mark the site near present-day Oahe Dam where Lindbergh landed in 1927 on a tour of all the state capitals. Lindbergh’s famous solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean in his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, was earlier that year, May 20-21, 1927.
