Artists, art lovers and community members are welcome to browse the latest works of the Canvasback Art Club as the organization hold its 13th Annual Art Show this weekend.

The exhibition, which will take place in the Pierre Chamber of Commerce Community Room, begins Saturday, Nov. 3, and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continues on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

A variety of paintings, drawings, photography, wheat weaving and painted china done by Canvasback club members will be available to view. Most of it will also be for sale.

The art club will display a couple new items at the show this year, including artwork done during their monthly challenges. Past challenges have involved creating art inspired by footwear, trees and poetry.

“We challenge each other to come up with an art piece in whatever art media we are, for one specific subject,” said Roberta Williams, vice president and treasurer of the club. “We just started that a few months ago, so we might have some of those pieces there.”

The art club will also pay a special tribute to former member Jim Erickson, who passed away this past year. Before he took ill, Erickson enjoyed painting with acrylics, watercolors and occasionally oils.

Some of Erickson’s work will be displayed at the show, which Williams believes will be a fitting way to honor him. Erickson’s brother Lynn is also currently a member of the group.

With only about a dozen members, Williams said that the club is looking for more interested artists to join, no matter what the skill level.

Meetings are on the first Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Rawlins Library, and anyone is welcome to come and visit. Club membership is $15 a year, which is used to cover the annual art show’s expenses.

“We share our artwork and try to encourage each other,” Williams said. “We show each other what we’ve been working on, or if we find a good article in an art magazine, we might share that, too.”

This weekend’s show will include a silent auction, door prizes and refreshments. For more information about the art exhibition or the Canvasback Art Club, you can contact Williams at 224-4481 or club president Ralph Stephens at 224-1841.
