In South Dakota one out of eight people is labeled as “food insecure” and one out of every five children is at risk of going hungry. But the state’s largest charitable hunger relief organization made sizeable efforts in 2013 to change those statistics.
Last year the Pierre Food Bank of Feeding South Dakota distributed nearly 1.4 million pounds of food, an increase of 50 percent from the 926,683 pounds distributed in 2012.
