Who is Jolly the Mystery Snowman? Pierre and Fort Pierre area residents will have a chance to begin guessing on Monday, October 29. The first of four weekly clues will be released shortly after 8:00 a.m. to kick off the chamber’s holiday campaign. The winner will take home $500 Pierre Pride Dollars.

Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Laura Schoen Carbonneau says Jolly is the new mascot of the Parade of Lights. “The Mystery Snowman contest is a way to create excitement about the parade and get people thinking about the upcoming holiday shopping season,” she says.

Each week the clues will be released through the chamber’s communication tools which include the website www.pierre.org, the weekly What’s Happening e-mail, and on the chamber’s Facebook page. The chamber will also be utilizing the local news media and Oahe TV to get the word out.

“Our goal is to get the entire community trying to figure out who Jolly is. It’s a fun way to create excitement and there’s a big payoff in the end for one lucky person,” says Schoen Carbonneau.

During the course of the campaign, people can submit their guesses on the chamber’s website at www.pierre.org. Beginning Monday there will be a “Who is Jolly” link at the bottom of the page. There is no limit the amount of guesses each person can make. Anyone who correctly identifies Jolly will have his or her name entered into a drawing. At noon on Monday, Nov. 26 Jolly will be unveiled at the Pierre Mall and will draw the cash prize.

Throughout the campaign, Jolly will make appearances at the weekly Christmas Cash Mobs which are designed to stimulate the local economy. The chamber will release information about the cash mobs each week. The first is scheduled for noon on Friday, Nov. 2 at the SD Heritage Store at the Cultural Heritage Center.

“We are asking people to join the fun by arming themselves with $5, $10 or whatever they feel appropriate and kick off the shopping season at our local businesses. We are interested to see how big of an impact we can make in a short amount of time. Of course, even if people aren’t quite ready for holiday spending, we welcome them for the event,” says Carbonneau.

As an added bonus for attending the cash mobs, the chamber will be giving away one-night’s stay in the Presidential Suite at the new Clubhouse Hotel and Suites. Registration will only be available at the cash mob locations. That prize will be given away immediately before Jolly is unveiled on Nov. 26.

The annual Parade of Lights will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23 in Pierre. Rules and Registration information is available on the chamber’s website www.pierre.org
