Beatrice J. Henson, 86, of Harrold, passed away peacefully early Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at the Highmore Health, Highmore, S.D., surrounded by her family and the loving staff where she resided for two years.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the Harrold Auditorium in Harrold, S.D., with Pastor Kori Lehrkamp officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Luze Funeral Home in Highmore.

Bea was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Holabird, S.D., to Clarence and Beatrice Genifer (Ingle) Axmaker. She attended elementary school at Holabird, S.D., graduating from Harrold High School in 1943. Bea married Grayson “Buzz” Davis in 1946. To this union Douglas Grayson “Butch” Davis was born. In 1951, Bea married Harold “Kentucky” Henson in Huron, S.D. To this union Mike, Jean, Charlie, Nancy, Wanda, and Beatrice were born. In her later years, she met Dennis Glanzer, living in Harrold, S.D., and they shared several years of companionship.

Bea loved to fish right up until her passing; she was an avid bowler receiving numerous trophies and awards in the 1970s and 1980s. Bea was an exceptional seamstress, establishing her career in upholstery and doing business as Bea’s Upholstery Shop in Pierre, S.D., from 1974 to 1998. Bea also enjoyed canning, cooking, gardening, and many creative sewing projects to include making quilts for her children. She was an amazing woman overcoming many adverse healthcare issues in her later years. She enjoyed getting the most out of life and loved telling jokes and funny stories. She touched many lives with her spontaneous humor, always leaving them with a smile. Bea will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her two sisters: Gloria (Ruth) Gramm and Doris Watson; her children: Douglas “Butch” (Mardell) Davis, Fort Pierre, S.D., Mike (Clela) Henson, Huron, S.D., Jean Henson, Harrold, S.D., Charles (Dianne) Henson, Brandon, S.D., Nancy (Darryl) Cuppy, Harrold, S.D., Wanda Mathews and Jake Bonnichsen, Blunt, S.D., and Bea Kay Lewis of Carter, S.D.; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gen and Clarence Axmaker; husbands Grayson “Buzz” Davis and Harold “Kentucky” Henson; and her two sisters: Gabriel “Gabe” Kvam and Clarice “Clarie” Parkin.
