As part of the continuing push to replant trees destroyed in last year’s flooding, the Pierre-Fort Pierre Rotary Club gave $1,000 to the city of Pierre during the city’s weekly commission meeting Tuesday.

Mayor Laurie Gill said the city has collected more than $15,000 to date to replace dead and dying trees. Roughly 255 acres of “green space” was underwater for three months last year, Gill said. The Hillsview Municipal Golf Course, in particular, has lost 515 trees to date, with more still barely clinging to life, she said.
