Pierre police arrested a Rapid City man Friday after a report of a hit and run led to a charge of grand theft and more.
Jeremy R. Azure, 37, allegedly stole a vehicle, hit a parked car and then hit a milling machine.
At about 8:40 a.m., police received a report of a hit and run at Broadway and Jefferson avenues.
Azure allegedly took a 2002 Chevrolet Impala from the 200 block of North Madison Avenue.
He then hit a parked 2006 Hyundai Sonata, which caused about $100 damage to it.
“He continued and struck a Caterpillar Milling Machine owned by Morris Inc.,” a news release from the Pierre Police Department says.
There was no damage estimate for the milling machine, but the estimated damage to the vehicle Azure allegedly stole was $11,750.
“Azure fled the scene and was later arrested at his place of employment, which is on the Pierre airport property,” the release says.
He was transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges of grand theft, felony; failure to report traffic crash; driving under the influence, second offense; driving while suspended; vehicular battery, felony; felony hit and run, injury accident.
A 29-year-old male passenger from Huron had a hand injury. AMR was called, but the victim did not want medical treatment from the ambulance staff, but would later he was transported by a private party to St. Mary’s Hospital.
