It's another great week for Community Art, with eight people submitting photos from around the Pierre and Fort Pierre area.
While outdoor scenes around central South Dakota dominate the photo spread, this week's pictures focused on catching the relaxing, calm landscapes waiting for visitors. And there were a few other images to shore up the variety.
Matthew Edwards, 7, chipped in on that effort, with one photo showing a couple of birds hanging out at some feeders in Roger Edwards' backyard. Matthew also took a great portrait of his sister, Abigail, who had enough time at the soccer net.
Roger shared a few photos as well. In one photo, he said he was ready to do some fishing, but the dock separated from the shoreline wasn't having it. He also sent a picture of a squirrel having a treat on Monroe Avenue before the cold weather appeared. And Roger found a nice evening at Farm Island, capturing a colorful sunset that silhouetted the landscape in the waning light.
Brenda Manning also caught a couple of nice sunrise photos at the causeway, one with several birds getting to their daily routine along the Missouri River and the other showing several ducks taking in the first light.
Nancy Stenson came across a wonderful sunrise as she made her way up the trail at Hilgers Gulch. The bright pinks and oranges pushing against the blue sky complimented the pinpoints of the lamps dotting the landscape.
Brian Lappe sent in a sunset with an angled frame to change the scene and add a painted quality to the horizon.
Leah Lappe found a golden sky as the sun set at her favorite spot near the power plant and lines by Oahe Dam. She also sent in several relaxing scenes from her other favorite spots around the Oahe and Farm Island areas, including a massive tree standing near the water with leaves in full fall mode.
Kerry Bowers found a piece of lunch-break zen with a beautiful fall scene around a bench at La Framboise Island. The golden leaves added an extra dash of yellow to complement the midday light and respite from the workday routine.
And Fred Leetch took a couple of landscape images from around the area. In one, he noted the low water as a telltale sign of little rainfall. In the other, he caught the rolling hills in Stanley County, noting the lunar-like pitting as they moved across the landscape.
If you have photos to share with the community, send them to Editor Jorge Encinas at jencinas@capjournal.com. The Capital Journal will publish them in Saturday's Dakota Life and Community Art gallery at capjournal.com.
The Capital Journal will also select one photo from the gallery to feature in the South Dakota Outdoors newsletter, published on Fridays. You can sign-up to receive the newsletters at capjournal.com under the "Outdoors" tab.
