South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is reminding visitors about firewood restrictions that are in place to slow the spread of emerald ash borer into state parks, according to a news release. The following restrictions apply: do not bring out-of-state wood into South Dakota; do not bring wood from the quarantine area into a state park unless it has a certification label affixed; within the quarantine-area, outside firewood also must have a certification label affixed; firewood may be purchased in the parks or from local stores outside the quarantine area; smooth dimensional lumber scraps are acceptable if sized to fit within the firegrate; wood containing nails, screws or hardware cannot be used as firewood; firewood purchased from a state park within the quarantine area may not be removed from the park. The quarantine area includes all of Minnehaha County and parts of Turner and Lincoln counties.
