The Korner Grocery, owned by Larry Robinson, is providing snacks and meals to area first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our nation and community are seeing some difficult times,” Robinson said. “We hope by spreading a little joy we can put a smile on some faces.”

Korner Grocery, itself, has not been immune to the slowing of business in the area’s community. “We are trying to weather the storm like so many others around us,” said Robinson, whose store is at 125 S. Van Buren Ave., Pierre.

The donations are being provided to local law enforcement, American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance, the Pierre Fire Department and the local 911 Central South Dakota Communications Center.

“The fire department certainly appreciates the donation gift card, for when things get back to normal for the department to again hold its larger meetings and trainings,” Pierre Fire Chief Ian Paul said.

“Our staff have been extremely busy and working long hours,” Director of Central South Dakota Communications Cindy Gross said. “Sometimes these acts of kindness go a long way for everyone.”

Gross added that they are currently looking for additional staff to help support the vital functions that the dispatch center provides. Job postings are on the city website https://www.cityofpierre.org/.
