The local Vietnam/ERA Veterans Association (VEVA) has planned a Capitol Lake War Memorial cleanup (rain or shine) beginning at 9:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2019 in order to help the State of South Dakota prepare the site for the Memorial Day weekend.
At 11:00 AM, all veterans, families and public will gather at the SD Vietnam Wall for a brief ceremony for the South Dakotans who were killed or missing in action in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Desert Storm, Afghanistan and first responders who died in the line of duty. Participants should arrive at 8:45 AM. All local Vietnam, Vietnam ERA, other veterans and first responder families are encouraged to attend to help with the cleanup and attend the ceremony. Beck Motors who will provide beverages, and Dakota Radio Group who will provide the Dakota Cruiser playing 1960’s and 1970’s Vietnam ERA music. Vietnam or Vietnam ERA veterans DO NOT NEED TO BE a member of VEVA to participate but are encouraged to wear an article of clothing identifying them as a Vietnam or Vietnam ERA veteran.
Anyone wishing to contribute to help defray costs may drop it off with any VEVA member at the Memorial Site during the cleanup project.
