Community Art

This week, we have a small but mighty Community Art centered on the local birding scene.
Matthew Edwards sent several great photos of birds hanging around the causeway in Pierre recently.
In one photo, he found a duck making a graceful landing on the water near the causeway. Edwards caught the landing at just the right time, as the duck's spread wings gave the photo some extra pop.
He also found a nearby eagle sunbathing and having some alone time in a tree. The slight nod in Edwards' direction seemed more contented than annoyed by the attention.
Edwards said he enjoyed seeing the variety of ducks gathered on the water during his visit to the causeway. And in his final photo, Edwards found a couple of squirrels having a good time playing a game of tag on a tree.
Aileen Brunner also pitched in a great bird photo this week. She found an American robin enjoying a spa day in her heated bird bath. Brunner noted the robins might not migrate south, depending on their food source and the weather.
If you have photos, send them to the Capital Journal at news@capjournal.com. Include the who, what, where and when with your submissions. The Capital Journal will publish them online at capjournal.com and in Saturday's Dakota Life.
The Capital Journal also selects one photo to feature in the weekly South Dakota Outdoors newsletter, published Fridays. You can sign up to receive the newsletter at capjournal.com under the "Outdoors" tab.
