The Pierre T.F. Riggs Governors track and field teams got their season underway on Monday when they competed in the Ruth Marske Invitational at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings. Teams from South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa saw action in the meet.

Leading the Govs girls top ten placers is junior Danielle Beck. She tied for sixth place in the girls high jump with a height of 4-10. Mason Berg placed tenth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:56.39.

On the boys side, Canyon Jones led the Govs boys. He tied for fourth in the pole vault with a height of 12-06. Jared Lutmer placed eighth in the 800 meter run after finishing with a time of 2:04.85, while Hayden Shaffer placed ninth with a time of 2:05.83. On the relay front, the 4x800 meter relay team of Mason Dell, Jared Lutmer, Hayden Shaffer and Haedon Wheelhouse placed second with a time of 8:47.67. The 4x100 meter relay team of Tayshaun Agard, Vick Becker, Landon Bertram and Caden Thompson placed tenth with a time of 45.48.

The Govs track team will next see action on Saturday at the ESD Indoor Meet at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings. Starting time is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
