Sponsored by the Mount Rushmore Society, the fourth annual Find (and Love) Your Park Festival was held June 8 in Rapid City’s Main Street Square. Several hundred visitors attended.
Over 20 booths offered in activities and information about parks. At the Minuteman Missile National Monument booth, kids made and shot their very own missile. Kids of all ages made s’mores at the Custer State Park booth. People made fire starters out of pine cones and wax at the Boy Scouts of the Black Hills booth. The first Find Your Park Festival was in 2016. The festivals spotlight the National Park Service and National Park Foundation’s “Find Your Park” awareness campaign to celebrate the National Park Service Centennial. The organization has expanded the theme by using the tagline: Love Your Park.
This event is held for the public to understand what is available in our Black Hills national parks, as well as other public lands and resources in South Dakota.
