The 14th annual Tyler Wilcox Memorial Guns n’ Hoses Blood Drive, December 3-5, brought in “422 units! That is a record,” said Abbie Arnason, Mitchell, senior donor recruitment representative for Vitalant. The annual friendly competition was held at the Fort Pierre Fire Station on December 3, and at Pierre’s Faith Lutheran Church on the other days. Donors specified at sign-in if they were donating blood on behalf of Team Guns (all branches of law enforcement in the area) or Team Hoses (Pierre and Ft. Pierre firefighters). Donors received free t-shirts. This year the traveling trophy went to the “Guns” with 226 units of blood under their heading. The “hoses” team ended with 195 units of blood to their credit. Shown, from left, are Jeri Wilcox - mother or the deceased Tyler Wilcox, Joe Meligan - volunteer with the Ft. Pierre Fire Department, Samson Boutchee - Pierre Police Department, and Steve Houghtaling - supervisor of the United States Marshals Office in Pierre.
