Mayren Ann (Schliessmann) Kern, 74

Mayren Kern, of Hopkins, Minn., died of natural causes after a long illness on March 30, 2014. She was born in Pierre on Oct. 12, 1939 and grew up there. She was a surgical nurse in the pioneering days of heart surgery at the University of Minnesota, a homemaker, and a volunteer counselor. She lived in Bloomington from 1968 to 2013, where she and her husband raised their children. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her sons, Brian (wife, Yatman; daughter, Pema), Shannon (wife, Michelle; son and daughter, Dylan and Camryn), and Dugan (son, Charlie); and her siblings, Don Schliessmann, Sally Munger, John Schliessmann, and Suzette Dammeier.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Harold G. Kern in 2006 and her parents, Gwendolyn and Eugene Schliessmann.
Mass of Resurrection at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 9401 Nesbitt Ave. S., Bloomington, Minn., on Sat., April 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. Private interment at Ft.
