Wharf Resources produced more than 100,000 ounces apiece of gold and silver last year from its Golden Reward mine in the Black Hills, environmental manager Matt Zietlow said Thursday.
The result: The company paid South Dakota severance taxes totaling $7.3 million, he told the state Board of Minerals and Environment.
Gold production was 109,175 ounces in 2016, while silver totaled 105,144 ounces.
“It was a strong year for us overall,” Zietlow said. Wharf produced 89,496 ounces of gold and 70,276 ounces of silver during 2015.
Golden Reward is South Dakota’s only large-scale gold mine still operating.
Board member Bob Morris of Belle Fourche asked why the mine had more production last year.
Replied Zietlow, “We had a little bit of everything.
