Dear U.S. Sen. John Thune, R-S.D.:
Are you a real Republican or a Trumper? A real Republican will be a true American Patriot. After 5 years of Trump, the Republican Party is in serious trouble as a legitimate party. I read your editorial in the Argus Leader, in which you call for the election divisiveness to be over. While this is the first public comment you have made, it comes a full two months after the election! You are a Senate Leader! Where has your leadership been? Trump has been allowed to rant and rave for two full months, falsely claiming election fraud and getting his followers riled up and ready to storm the capitol. Not a word out of you. Yes, the hate of Trump coming for you, is evident, but now, more than ever, is the time to do what is right and try to regain the conservative principles you claim you work for.
This coming week, the U.S. House will vote to impeach Donald Trump. In order for full impeachment to be effective against this vile person, the Senate needs to hold a trial and find him guilty. If he is found guilty, Trump will have his pension removed, his secret service detail removed, his travel budget removed and he will not be allowed to ever again run for President. You are in a major place in the Senate to see that this happens. So Do Your Darn Job! Find the courage to do what is right.
After 5 years of Trump assaults and insults on literally everyone in Washington, D.C. politics and the deadly assault on our nation’s Capitol building, Trump needs to be finally made to account for his disastrous presidency. The Republican Party is torn between real Republicans and trumpers or anti-Republicans. The right vote on his impeachment trial could be the first step in restoring a healthy two-party system and bring some respect to what used to be a noble, stable party. Stand up and be a patriot, get the real Republican Party back to its values, roots and purpose. Put Trumpism away. This is the most critical moment you face as a Senator – face the moment head on and do the right thing. Support Impeachment of Donald J. Trump.
