I would like to take this opportunity to thank the South Dakota offices of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) for a recent educational program on water rights. The Deputy Director of the USGS Dakota Water Science Center, Janet Carter, hosted the water law and water rights workshop. The South Dakota water law and South Dakota water rights public event was held in Rapid City. I was invited as the guest speaker. It is impressive when a government agency takes active steps to keep a statewide audience informed on important natural resource issues. A good number of the public and water professionals were in attendance. The USGS is to be complimented for the well-attended workshop. I would also like to thank the Respec Consulting Firm in for allowing their meeting room to be used for the workshop presentation.
