Pierre weathered one heck of storm last week! We weathered it well because we worked together.
I’d really like to commend the public for its patience and graciousness as City of Pierre employees worked to clear the 80 miles of City streets.
I’d also like to acknowledge our community members who once again stepped up to help out neighbors in need by checking on them, clearing sidewalks, and opening up driveways. In addition, we had a number of private haulers who went above and beyond by helping bust through snow drifts.
Certainly, our City staff also deserve recognition. We had 16 people removing snow (because the others were socked in by the snow); each worked between 60 and 110 hours last week to clear our roads and make them safe for you. We had law enforcement officers, supported by our 911 dispatch center, in the elements throughout the night responding to snow-related calls. Our public safety partners were staged with snow plows and at the ready throughout the event to help those in need. It was a great team effort!
Hats off to everyone who helped out with the response and recovery effort! The storm was a memorable one, but then so was our community response.
