The Pierre T.F. Riggs trapshooting team is gearing up to defend their State Championship that they won last June.
This year’s team of 58 student athletes has completed three weeks for the five weeks of league competition. The league competition takes place at the Pierre Isaak Walton trap league range. All of the competitors shoot each week. Their scores are then entered into the statewide score tracking system.
There are 43 teams statewide assigned to five conferences based on a similar number of team members. Pierre competes in the large school conference. They have won the conference championship every year since high school trapshooting in South Dakota began in 2016. The season concludes with a State Tournament held in Aberdeen.
Fans who want to see the kids in competition can see them compete at the Pierre Isaak Walton trap league range on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. CT.
